On the first day of Spring Break, which happened to be Monday, March 31, the kids and I decided to make homemade meatballs. Spaghetti and meatballs is one of our favorite dinners, along with grilled fish tacos and guac, so we decided to go for it. Owen especially loves recipes and cooking, so he was all in. Delaney loves anything her big brother tries, and wants to be a part of every experience, so she was in too. Once we had all our ingredients, inspiration struck. We could make an Italian restaurant right at home! We listed everything we would need:
tablecloth, special plates and glasses, candles, music, a menu, "appetites" (appetizers) and decorations.
We decided to name our restaurant Zucchero, which means sugar in Italian. We also decided that we would play an April Fools' Joke on daddy, and tell him we didn't have time to make dinner at all when he arrived home from work. Owen asked if we could institute a family tradition of always making a restaurant at home on the first day of a vacation. Yes!
