History in the making

photo from cnn.com

I'm watching the Democratic debate as I type this; it's streaming live on cnn.com
I feel so 21st century. It's wild, isn't it?
Finally, here we sit with two actual candidates for change and they represent gender, race, and still have similar viewpoints on many issues I am finding. Making it a little tougher to decide. hmmm.

2-minute post

Here is a sideways pic of our new blue bathroom "accent" wall.
Good morning and happy Tuesday! It's 7 am and it's going to be a great day.
School is back in session (thank goodness!) A three-week vacation is just a bit too long. I love living 5 minutes from school because my mornings are so not rushed! I can spend the first half-hour chill on the couch with news/internet and coffee. So great!

What I'm learning is that TV news is probably going to go the way of newspapers eventually. Everything I see I already knew from reading websites. hmmm.

Tonight is kickboxing class #1 followed by a strength training mini-class. I'll be back with the aftershocks.

Own your day!

thrifting

new year, new look

so we had fun at target this morning as expected (that's not the thrifting part of the post.)

Then I went to the friends of the library book sale and to goodwill looking for neutral cords in my size. (oh, i've been to ann taylor, ross, the gap etc. with no luck) Here are my finds:

$112.00 (retail cost) worth of books for $13.00 (a dozen books!)
old navy stretch tan cords size 4 short (you can NEVER find the short sizes at the old navy stores) for $6.49

Total cost for fun thrifting afternoon: $19.49.
What should I do with the change?
Added bonus on thrifting (i.e.buying used items for cheap): they are non-taxable!

whoo-hoo.

go me.

3000 visitors

I was going to give a prize to the 3000th visitor. Oops, its me. Hmmm.
If you have a thirst for adventure and are not queasy or saddened by the deaths of small and large family pets, head over to hollywoodflakes.blogspot.com and read this.

Don't say I didn't warn you.

feels like summer

it's 4:53 and 64 degrees...feels so great outside! I worked in the garden and the garage this afternoon, my last free afternoon! What a great vacation. I actually worked half-time this week; 8-12 everyday. It made for a nice transition. Although Mon,Tues, and Wed, I had to nap in the afternoon due to the vaca "sleep-in" schedule. So I opened the house up a bit this afternoon and let some air in. Lu enjoyed it. We're gearing up for a year of visits! Starting in two weeks with J, B and S. We have some big plans including the La Brea Tar Pits! While they're here my aunt and uncle will be in town with my cousins so we'll get together. Looking forward to it! Here's a peek at the weekend:

Saturday~ Target! whoo-hoo! for all sorts of sundries and necessities like:

*new (matching) bedside lamps for the master bedroom (my $3.00 target deal one quit and we need D's for the guest room!)

*laundry detergent

*bicycle lock

*wet cat food (fancy feast of course!)

Sunday~ we'll get together with a couple who are co-workers of D's and in from out of town

Snowy mountaintops

Had a lovely transition back to work today. I'm teaching a morning intersession to 15 kinders (mixed from all the classes) for 3 hours a day this week. It's a good way to ease back into a working schedule. Promising myself one last afternoon nap didn't hurt either. There was snow in the mountain tops encircling our valley; just gorgeous.

back to it!

Well, I have slid down the slippery slope of sleeping in and staying up late. Today I forced myself up at 7:40 after reading and surfing the internet til nearly 2 am. I am technically on vacation for one more week, but I am working mornings next week. If the weather holds out, here is the schedule for the weekend:

Friday *work on graduate class lessons 4-6
*meet D. for his co-workers bday happy hour

Saturday *manifestation boards city-sponsored class 10 am - noon
*food shopping

Sunday *take down the tree :(
*work on class lessons 7-8

hope to squeeze in a bike ride and some garage organization too!

TGIF

I'm so happy tomorrow is only Friday, because I have LOTS to do before the weekend hits! I am officially a social networker, having joined Facebook this week. It is a little addictive. I've reconnected with some old friends and invited new ones. Thanks, J, for the invite! I am a few years above the average age, but that's ok. The numbers are growing for those in their 30's. I found bunches of kids I used to babysit who are now highschoolers, and tons of young cousins and/or their kids.

What's in Your Fridge?

So, dinner worked out well. I am not the main cook in the house so it's always an adventure when I decide to make dinner. D. planned to hit the gym after work so I wanted to have a good dinner waiting for him when he got home at 7:30. I knew I would
a-have to go shopping or
b-be creative with the ingredients in the house

I opted for B, then started looking for websites where you can punch in your ingredients and they give you recipes to make. I found firehousechefs.com
but they recommended I make Yorkshire pudding with my eggs, milk, and butter.

nah.

I decided to be creative on my own.

This does not always work out well.

I surveyed the refrigerator and the pantry and zeroed in on these ingredients:

egg noodles
mushroom gravy
peas
frozen pre-cooked ground turkey (thanks, mom!)

So I set about prepping a winter casserole. and guess what?
It was good.
I mean really good.
I know this not only because I thought it was pretty tasty, but because D. had
three bowls. 3!

Maybe I'll try this cooking thing again tomorrow! (after I stop by the market.)

Playing housewife

Since D. had 11 days off in a row and had to go back to work this morning, I am playing (fulltime) housewife. So, I got up with him and fixed him breakfast. (corn flakes with sliced bananas, almonds, and 1 packet of splenda) Then I took a nap. A really long nap. So long, that Luna finally decided to nap on top of me, since I wasn't moving. After the nap, I was ready to be productive, knowing full-well that actual housewives do NOT get to nap from 8 o'clock until nearly noon. From noon to 6 o'clock, however, here is what the "housewife" accomplished:

2 loads of laundry
cleaning off the tops of the washer and dryer
unload dishwasher
wash baking dishes from yesterday
make the bed
clean litter
sweep the floors
move the (large) area rug from the middle of the guest room floor
tidy up the guest room (it is booked 1/23-1/29, 2/15-2/18, 3/31-4/5 and 4/9-4/16!)
worked on my class
called voter reg. to make sure we are set
emptied 4 garbage cans
exercised
made dinner
cleaned off couch
cleaned coffee table off, then washed and windexed it
put away some cards and gifts
whew!
i don't know if I could do this full time! heehee

D. and Lu are dozing on D's final day of vacation.
I am surfing the internet.
Today D.s's grandpa turned 90! We spoke to him just a a bit ago.
